District 27 Spring Conference report

The District 27 Spring Conference was held this past Saturday, May 3rd, 2014, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Washington National Airport in Crystal City, Virginia.

I wasn't able to attend the whole event, but did attend the business meeting and the International Speech Contest. I had a great time. All of the speeches were great!

Hey, what happened? (missing three years)

Nothing really. I simply have not logged in and posted anything for three years. I've still been involved in Toastmasters, I just felt that I didn't have time to post. When I was active here, I was an Area governor. When that responsibility ended, so did my blog posts. Now that I've been elected to be the new Division E Governor of District 27 for the upcoming Toastmasters year, I've remembered that this is a good outlet and resource for me and other Toastmasters. So, if there's anybody else looking at this, then you may find new posts throughout this coming year.

Cheers, and happy Toastmastering!

Jokemaster Today

I'm jokemaster today at my club's, Talk of the Town Toastmasters, meeting. Here's the jokes I'm sharing:

"President Obama had lunch with Republican leaders at the White House today and had to do without salt, pepper and butter. Not for dietary reasons. The Republicans refused to pass anything." –Jay Leno

"The problem in Egypt is that so many government officials are rich and the people are poor. I think it’s a pyramid scheme." –Jay Leno

"The Catholic Church has approved an app that let’s you confess on your iPhone. You can now cheat and atone right on the same device. Perfect for Brett Favre. The actual name for this app is “Priest in your pocket.” Don’t they read the paper? Couldn’t they come up with a better name?" –Jay Leno

Area E5 H&F / Talk of the Town party a huge success - D27 party invite

I just wanted to thank all of those who attended our Area E5 Hail & Farewell and Talk of the Town club's 10th anniversary party on Friday evening, and let the rest of you know that you missed one fine and fun Toastmaster event! We wished you could have joined us; now don't miss the next one! :)

A special thank you goes out to all of those who planned it, set it up, and tore it down; as well as those who drove great distances from way up north. ;)

To the Talk of the Town club, I'm grateful that you graciously hosted the event and allowed us to share in your milestone celebration. It was a great idea to combine two parties into one! Gee, who thought of that anyway ...?

We had a good attendance of about 35 Toastmasters and guests.

It was a Hawaiian anniversary theme complete with leis, Beach Boys music, balloons, lumpia, pulled pork bbq, cole slaw, potato salad, cake, etc. (yes I know lumpia is from the Phillipines; thanks Susie)

You can see a few pictures at http://club9410.freetoasthost.info

A bonus to the event and to our year was earning Distinguished Area with Ashley G's (Elocution club) delivery of her 10th and final speech requirement for her Competent Communicator award. This gave us our 8th CC in our area to qualify.

It was a great way to end my term serving as your Area E5 governor. I look forward to another great Toastmaster year. I'll definitely be seeing you around.

Oh, a couple of final items:

1. Area E4 needs a new governor. If you would like to step up and fulfill this DTM requirement, please let me know ASAP.

2. Our District 27 Hail & Farewell party is this Saturday evening, June 26, 2010 at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, 18900 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Triangle, VA 22172. Details on this event are found on our website at http://www.d27tm.org then look for the ANNOUNCEMENT re: the HAIL AND FAREWELL.  (Should be the 3rd in the list)

3. Get all of your accomplishments recorded with Toastmasters International headquarters at http://www.toastmasters.org. Dues payments, educational awards, new member applications, etc. We are a distinguished area and you are distinguished clubs IF AND ONLY IF we get it all submitted by COB this Friday June 25. (The actual deadline is Wednesday June 30, but for recognition at our district party on Saturday we need it all wrapped up by Friday)

You're awesome!

Thanks,
Hyrum

State of Area E5 Report

Division E, Area 5
To be distinguished, the area needs any THREE of the following four goals by June 30:

    * 3 more clubs to pay April renewals by May 15
    * 8 more CCs
    * 1 more AC
    * 3 more Distinguished clubs

All clubs with 5+ DCP points meet the 20-or-plus-5 membership requirements.

Following clubs do not have reported spring visits (due by May 31):

    * 1081 - Patuxent River Tm's
    * 3369 - IPT
    * 9410 - Talk of The Town
    * 1181573 - Every Member Articulates (EMA)
    * 1313267 - Elocution

As area governor I will make sure I get out and visit each of the clubs. I also plan to get my AC award.

Good job on meeting the 20-or-plus-5 membership requirements.

I need you to make sure you get your April renewals in by May 15th and get 2 more CCs each.

If we do all that then you should all make distinguished club and all together we will make a distinguished area.

Let's do it!
